Bio
Kelsey McShay, originally from Carmel, Indiana, is a senior at Purdue University studying Aeronautical Engineering Technology. Upon graduating in May 2024, she plans to work as an engineer within the aerospace and aviation industry. Though this is her first time writing articles, she is grateful for the opportunity to write for T1DStrong and feels a career in which she is able to combine her love for aerospace and writing would be ideal.
Kelsey was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in October 2021 at the age of 20. Diabetes has provided various challenges, the most demanding—learning how to maintain and cultivate an even healthier lifestyle than before her diagnosis. In light of this, Kelsey has been weightlifting for over ten months, progressing her fitness journey and aiding her overall health. Taking good care of her diabetes has given her a new sense of perseverance and discipline.
Outside of school and weightlifting, Kelsey enjoys reading mystery and science fiction novels and watching more documentaries than she’d like to admit. Back home, she enjoys frequenting coffee shops and attending local art fairs and concerts. In the summer, you can find her hiking, boating, fishing, and tubing, while in the winter, she (hopefully might be) skiing and, if not, enjoying the snow from inside.
Kelsey is ever grateful for her friends and family that have supported her with faith and without condition in this journey. She sends love to them all, as well as everyone devoting their time to learn about type 1 diabetes.
